When Pawn Meets Food

As the economy took a turn for the worse, most pawn shop owners saw an increase in their business. On the other hand, most restaurants did not see much of a change in the way of their business. And that is due to the simple fact that people eat and drink when they are happy and they eat and drink when they are sad. So, one pair of pawn shop owners got wise to this and did something pretty remarkable… they turned part of their pawn shop into a tavern!

It was a little over a year ago that Brain Lurie and Karen Moskowitz, partners of The Yuppie Pawn Shop in Kirkland, Washington decided to convert a third of their pawn shop into a tavern. The establishment serves both spirits and food. The combination may be a little strange, but it works.

The novelty of the store and tavern draws people in from all over the town and neighboring areas. People come to browse or pawn items and end up staying for a bite to eat. Others come in for the food and end up perusing the merchandise on their way out or while they are waiting for their meal to be served. Still others stop in to drink and then turn around and pawn jewelry to get even more drinks. Some days there are customers who drink and buy, buy and drink.

Boasting an Old-West theme, the pawn shop offers a wide range of items ranging from small arrowheads to a 1975 Rolls Royce and much, much more. There is a little something for every taste… both in terms of pawned items as well as food!

In addition to the lure of the goods and delicious food and drink, The Yuppie Pawn Shop offers something more to customers, it also has large TV’s for watching, darts to be played and live music on the weekends.
And though this pawn shop is way out in Washington, it is still a novel and interesting place to find out about. Make no mistake about it, this is not your ordinary pawn shop!

“Pawn Stars” & Credit Cards

If you have questioned the recent popularity of pawnshops, then let this be an answer to your question… The stars of the reality show “Pawn Stars” are being featured on a limited edition prepaid debit card. That’s right, all your favorite “Pawn Stars” right on your card.

The Vegas reality show has become a huge hit for the History Channel and now the stars will have their faces immortalized on debit cards. With pawnshops providing financial services for consumers that don’t have a traditional checking account or credit card, they allow people direct access to funds they would not normally be able to have. This credit card achieves this goal perfectly.

This is just one more way that pawnshops are becoming mainstream. Though they have been around for centuries, pawnshops have become increasingly popular in the past few years as the economy went from bad to worse. Many consumers found themselves at the short end of the lending stick with banks and other traditional lending institutions unwilling to do business with them. They turned to an alternative source for their money needs; that being pawn shops.

Pawnshops do not have the red tape that traditional lending institutions have, therefore they are able to offer loans to consumers that banks cannot or will not. Also, pawnshops offer some fantastic deals on used electronics and other merchandise.

Whether you need a quick loan for personal needs, you are looking to make a few dollars on unwanted items around the house or you are in the market for a great bargain, pawnshops are there to help. Stop into your local pawnshop today to see what they can do for you!
